Prescott, Wisconsin
|
The Wisconsin Great River Road begins in Prescott, at the junction of the Mississipi and St. Croix Rivers. The city dates from 1839, when Philander Prescott, a trader and Indian interpreter, established a ferry across the St. Croix River here. Stop at The Welcome and Heritage Center for visitor information and to see local historic displays.
Downtown, at Mecord Mill Park, you can clearly see the line where the blue waters of the St. Croix meet the muddy waters of the Mississippi. Prescott has full service marinas, houseboat rental and river cruise opportunities, and good fishing. Wisconsin´s Great River Road leaves Prescott, following the Mississippi River as it continues south through Pierce County on State Highway 35.
