Somewhere between Fort Boise in Boise City and Fort Boise on the Snake River comes this town of Middleton, Idaho.

Town Site
|
The town site of Middleton, one of the oldest in Idaho was platted in 1863 and included parts near the Boise River, totaling one square mile. The location of the town near the Boise River created a real problem when the river flooded and flowed around the town site, turning it in to an island to be reached only by rowboat. in 1881, the entire town was moved about 1/2 mile to the present location.

Name
|
Middleton got it´s name by being the middle town halfway between Fort Boise in Boise City and Fort Boise on the Snake River.

1865
|
In 1865 the first general store was built and a post office was established in 1866.

1871
|
In 1871 the Flour Mill was established about a mile north of the town. Early settlers came from near and far to have their wheat ground.

1907
|
In 1907, as a result of the new street car system from Boise and Caldwell, Middleton experienced a building boom and several businesses were started. The present Middleton Grange Hall was built as a substation for the electric trolley & the town.

1883
|
In 1883, the Oregon Short Line Railroad bypassed Middleton and nearly ruined the town. Even though, some businessmen tried to build a branch line, they were unable because of financial problems.

2000
|
Middleton in 2000, is a progressive community with a population of over 2600, four schools, eight churches, six parks, a two million-gallon water tank, modern drainage, streets paved and a highly efficient water treatment project.
